Thesis Paper
Ted Talk
Senior Project
For my senior project, I decided that I would design and construct a "Free Box" which is a public shelving unit that is used for clothing donations as well as a place for people to get clothes for free. The idea came from the Telluride Free Box which has been operational since the 1970's and has become an iconic item in Telluride. This project idea is also very relevant to my senior thesis paper which was answering the question of, "In a world filled with fast fashion, how might we develop more environmentally and socially sustainable production and consumption practices?". I found the Free Box to be a great way to bring the idea of what it means to be ethically conscious about clothing consumption into our community.
As of now I have the Free Box fully constructed and will be painted by Jeff Hamner and potentially other Durango artists and muralists. I have contacted several Durango business owners about sponsoring the Free Box but I have still yet to find a location for it. More information will come in the future once the Free Box is painted and placed at convenient location in Durango for the community to access.
