LINK Project
For my LINK project, my task was to find new ways to market and advertise a jazz camp that SBG helps hosts the week leading into the festival. For the past few years SBG has teamed up with Caleb Chapman's Soundhouse and the Telluride Academy to create an outdoor based jazz camp. The camp is intended to give jazz students the opportunity to practice and improve their jazz skills and give them the chance to explore the outdoor activities that Telluride has to offer. The camp is five days long and leads right into the weekend long festival.
Within the last few years, the teams have been struggling to find enough students to fill all of the slots for the camp. After I started my internship at SBG Productions, I was asked to complete a research project so that I could help and give them information on how to advertise their camp. I started the project by researching ten different jazz camps that are in the U.S and that are well known for having really engaging camps. This allowed me to see |
what the camps' websites looked like and how they advertised to encourage as many kids as possible to join the camp. I then wrote a strength and a weakness for each of the camps so that the information could be organized and easy to understand. The next thing that I did was research each camps' social media page to see how other business advertise their camps through social media sources such as Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter. After I completed that task, I researched three other music camps that are outdoor based camps to see what similarities they had in common with the SBG camp. This research was really beneficial for learning the basics behind how advertising can play such a big role in the enrollment of students in a program.
After I was done with the research portion of my project, I thought that contacting other students and teachers that have been a part of music camps would give me a lot of good information about what they think is an engaging music camp. I compiled a list of three friends who were Josh Dearien, Rex Stowers, and Kai Henriksen and three teachers who were Evan Suiter, Jesse Ogle, and Jared Wright. Having this information gave me a great chance to hear the side from students and teachers about how to have an engaging music camp. After I was done contacting students and teachers, I summarized my ideas on how they could create an engaging music camp. This was just a summarization of the findings I found through my research and feedback from students and teachers. I then gave feedback to Patrick and Courtney to show how they could improve their website so that more people would be interested in visiting their page. I also researched music websites that they could advertise their camp on because most musicians would be interested in attending a camp if they saw it advertised on a musical website. My project ended with me having a meeting with Patrick and Courtney to discuss my ideas and findings. Below you can see my whole research project.
