Preparation and Anticipation
At the beginning of the second semester, I decided that I was going to do my internship within the music industry because it is one of the career fields that I am most interested in pursuing. At first, I thought that finding an internship was going to be easy in the music industry because there are hundreds of recording studios and bands that want to book time. Unfortunately, it wasn't that easy. I tried to contact recording studios in Fort Collins, Hollywood, and Durango and each of the business either said they didn't have the time or that I had to be eighteen to work in a studio. I then decided that finding an internship in the music industry was going to be too difficult. I started looking for internships in the fashion industry because it is another career field I'm interested in pursuing. I then started contacting more companies in the same three places but received the same answer as before. As LINK was approaching quickly, I started looking for contacts on the IAM Music website to see if there were any opportunities that I could jump on. Through the website, I was able to find SBG Productions in Telluride which is a company that organizes some of the most iconic blues and jazz music festivals in country. I then emailed Courtney McClary who is their Director of Operations. She responded very quickly and said that it was a possibility but not a definite yes due to the amount of office space and work for me. After about a week of waiting she said that they had a spot for me and that they were very excited to have me in the office with them. This was a really relieving and exciting moment for me because of all the time I spent trying to find an internship. It was also really cool to get an internship that was in the field I was originally trying to get into. The only difference was that before, I was trying to find one in an actual recording studio while the SBG Productions internship has to do more with the marketing, advertising, and business aspect of the music industry. Even though this internship wasn't exactly what I initially was looking for, I'm very excited to be doing my internship with SBG Productions. Going into my LINK Internship, I feel more confident than I thought I would which surprises me. Along with that, I am also very excited to start and get into the motion of working on projects that interest me. The music industry is a field that I'm interested in pursuing as career and I am very excited see what the marketing and business side of it looks like.
